New Cameras & Lenses

2012 should finally cough up some new Canon camera bodies and lenses, which many of us have been waiting for. All the news is not yet revealed, but it will likely be the time to upgrade - I've been using my 1Ds for almost five years now--and that is a long time in this age of digital cameras!

Lightroom Plugins

If you are a user of Adobe Lightroom to manage and process your digital photos, this site offers some useful plugins that may expedite your workflow to some degree. I use a few of the Metadata handling tools. Check them out at: www.photographers-toolbox.com

Northern Greetings from Fairbanks, AK

Winter's Embrace

tempAt minus -24 degrees, winter's embracing arms are fully wrapped around the residents of Alaska's interior. As for me, I enjoy winter greatly, and in spite of the fact that I leave in a few days for South America, I really do long to stay and ski through the beautiful snow covered boreal forest that surrounds my home and office.

Running the office solo

soloThis will be my first winter running the office solo, and endemic to all businesses is the need for a presence at the helm to do some fine tune steering. I have some website updates planned and the inclusion of new photographic material, including a few galleries.

Updates on my Blog

mapThis year is shaping up to be one of my busiest in terms of travel. I've logged some wonderful sights and experiences in the past six months and have a number of trips on deck into 2012. If you have been following my blog, I've shared some there. You can take a look through the links below. My favorite would have to be the Arrigetch Peaks in Alaska's Gates of the Arctic National Park. The landscape is simply spell bindingly rugged and beautiful.

Alaska Calendars

calendarprofiles calendarThis year I introduced a new calendar titled : ALASKA - Profiles in Nature, with field notes about the photos. I'm excited about this calendar because it enables me to feature some of my work from across the state. My other Calendar, Fairbanks and Interior Alaska, while a favorite, has some geographical restrictions on what pictures can be included. I still have some of both calendars, and I'm currently offering free shipping if you would like one for yourself, or as a gift for someone else. They are $12 and can be viewed and ordered here.

Arctic Photo Tours

polar bearsThe 2011 Arctic Photo Tours that I co guide with Hugh Rose were a great success this year, in spite of the fact that we never photographed the aurora on either trip. That is the first time since we started these trips, which is 10 years! Thanks to everyone who joined us, we are currently in the process of booking for 2012.

issAnd speaking of the aurora, a friend shared an amazing time lapse video taken by the International Space Station looking down on earth. It is most certainly worth a view: http://vimeo.com/32001208

Fine art prints

canvasSince I switched my website to a new platform back in April, I've sold many prints. Of those however, there seems to be an increased popularity in the gallery canvas wraps. They are printed on canvas paper and stretched around a wooden frame, arriving ready to hang. It is a particular style that does not fit all situations, but one that allows avoiding the costly effort of framing behind glass. All images on my website can be purchased as fine art prints for home or office, in a variety of sizes.

Greeting Cards

greeting cardsIt is that time of year again. If you are thinking about doing something custom for a greeting card (I always try to encourage people to use their own photos) and you want a scene from Alaska, cards can be ordered directly through my website. If you are wanting a quantity larger than a few hundred, I have some possible cheaper alternatives, so contact me.

Upcoming Travels

mapA busy travel schedule awaits the close of 2011 and the beginning of 2012. In due time, I'll share some shots from these upcoming journeys.

  • Atacama Desert
  • Patagonia
  • Virgin Islands
  • Grand Canyon

As Always...... thanks for your interest
