Late September and early October bring the first snow to Fairbanks, generally. A light dusting on the trees which still retain a few of the autumn leaves offers a beautiful contrast of soft white and colorful autumn colors. This frame was taken in the undulating hills on the north west side of Fairbanks, just a few miles from my office. I actually wanted to crop the scene even tighter, but I was already at 700mm, reaching across a valley to the other side. Not the clump of yellow aspen trees in the center, as a one single organism, the whole cluster of trees will loose their leaves simultaneously. This is in contrast to the birch trees in the bottom of the frame, which all loose their leaves independently.

That is an absolutely gorgeous shot…
Jesse,
We had a few days of great beauty during the transition from autumn to winter, and the hillsides were painfully gorgeous!

Hi Patrick, Of all the great photos of yours that I have enjoyed over the years, this one is among the best. Absolutely beautiful!
Hey Patrick,
As Jesse said – this is absolutely gorgeous. Beautiful photo.
Cheers
Carl
Calvin,
Kudos from you are significant 🙂 I do like the impressionistic feel of this photo, it has that color palette and tonal range fitting for a fine art print of some sort. I’m in the arctic now in 40mph winds!
Patrick
Carl,
Thanks for the appreciation of the pic. Fairbanks, after all, does have some beauty living in the hillsides, in spite of our state wide reputation 🙂
Hope your summer was productive.
Patrick
