Dead trees in Sossusvlei, Namibia, Africa. Canon 5D Mark III, 17-40mm f/4L, 1/50 sec @ f/16, ISO 100.
While this region is popular among photographers, and this image is in no way unique, it was still fun to finally see this wonderful landscape and capture a few frames during my trip to Namibia, Africa. Located in Sossusvlei, the dead trees in this pan are a stark feature indeed. Accessing them involves just a short 1 km hike across a sand dune. The predictable, cloud free skies during the month of June make this a simple composition, as far as the sky goes. I’d love to experiment during another season with early morning or late evening clouds for a different compositional element. I took this shot with a 17-40mm lens at 17 mm at about 4:00 p.m. in the afternoon.
