Stepping outside of my house to views like this is one of the many reasons I enjoy living in Fairbanks, Alaska, and yes, even through the dark and cold winters. Natural beauty is a tonic to the soul, and I find that embracing the seasons and getting outside regardless of the conditions, cultivates an awareness and appreciation for the environment, weather, and surroundings that mark the fluid seasonal changes. I took this photo last Saturday night, framing the birch trees along my driveway against this brilliantly colorful sky filled with aurora. The picture is a reminder of how privileged I am to live where I do.
