On June 10th I crossed Ernie Pass (the continental divide) of the Brooks Range on foot, during a 110 mile hike/packraft trip with a friend. Yesterday, I was near Isabel Pass in the Alaska Range. Mountain travel has one common feature, and that is dramatically changing weather. It is one aspect I like about traveling in Alaska, with its many, many mountain ranges. As a landscape photographer, the sky plays a vital role, and clouds often make a magic photo. Besides feeling the changing weather, seeing it unfold in undulating and shifting clouds is one of the great gifts of being out in nature. Some time ago I posted a gallery about cool cloud photos.
Below are a few photos to illustrate some cloud drama in Alaska’s mountain country.
